Georgia volleyball recorded it's second three-set victory of the day Sunday night as they downed Georgia State in the final game of the Georgia Invitational.
Georgia defeated Furman in the first match of the day.
"Anytime you have to play two matches in one day it's really good to get a couple of wins and a couple of three game wins, so we felt really good about that part of our day," head coach Joel McCartney said.
The Bulldogs got strong play from senior Maria Taylor and sophomore Erika Clark throughout the night match to secure the victory. Taylor had 17 kills, which led both teams, followed by Clark's 10.
Georgia got off to a slow start in the first set falling behind 4-0 before rallying to take a 13-12 lead in the set. The Bulldogs eventually found themselves at set point but it was not easy to close the set. Georgia State fought off four set-points from the bulldogs before having a set point of its own. Georgia fought off the set point and then capitalized on its fifth set point to win the first set 29-27, on a Clark kill.
The second set saw the Bulldogs start off slow again, and down 17-14, but they finished the set strong winning 11 of 12 points to win the set 25-18.
In the final set of the match the two teams went back-and-forth, with a total of seven ties before Georgia took the lead for good at 18-17.
The Bulldogs would coast from there to a 25-21 win to put away the match.
"I think we had to learn a lot in Friday's match and try to come out with fire," Taylor said.
Georgia will play again Tuesday night in the Ramsey Center against Mercer University at 7 p.m.
