Rocking the vote
As the voter registration deadline nears, make sure your voice is heard Nov. 4Whatever your stance on politics, The Red & Black editorial board hopes you show up at the polls - or send in your ballot - on Nov. 4 to vote. That said, we highly encourage all eligible in the Bulldog Nation to register by the Oct. 6 deadline.
If you still haven't registered and you're confused about the process, don't worry.
First-time voters can register by mail by sending a copy of their driver's license and a completed registration form to the Secretary of State or the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections, as reported on page seven of today's Red & Black.
If you're from out of town, as most University students are, simply fill out an absentee ballot application (available online at www.sos.state.ga.us/elections) and mail it to your county office. You then will receive the ballot in the mail and need to return it to the County Board of Registrars' Office by 7 p.m. Nov. 4.
With the inflow of columns and letters to the editor, we know many students are interested in the issues - especially those that are unprecedented - of the 2008 election. Continue to make your voice heard by writing to The Red & Black, but, more importantly, by voting.
Of all the nations in the world, you live in one that allows you to have a say in your government representatives and the policies they enforce. We hope you don't let such freedoms go to waste.
Register to vote. Just do it.

Battle of the bands
Go online and support the Redcoats in the upcoming marching band contestAs a marching band for one of the top 10 NCAA football teams, the Redcoats have been invited to compete in a contest hosted by ESPN and Paramount Pictures.
The Red & Black editorial board would like to take a moment to congratulate the Redcoat band on being part of the competition to promote the release of the latest Indiana Jones DVD, as reported on the front page of today's newspaper.
The contest will air on ESPN in October and will feature the marching bands of the top 10 NCAA football teams.
ESPN will film the Redcoats in Sanford Stadium on Sept. 12 as they perform the Indiana Jones theme song.
Video of the Redcoats and each marching band that competes will be televised on ESPN.
Fans then will have the opportunity to go online to vote for their favorite band.
If the Redcoats win the competition, they will receive $25,000 and priceless bragging rights over the other schools' bands.
We are excited for the Redcoats' chance to shine in national spotlight, and we encourage the rest of the Bulldog Nation to vote in support of our band and our University.
The Bulldog faithful have always known it is true that the Redcoats are the best marching band in the land, and now we have the opportunity to prove it to the rest of the country.
After all, "Ain't nothin' finer in the land than the Georgia Redcoat Marching Band."
