Situated in the heart of East Campus is a pristine addition to the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

Today, the University will be debuting the Performing and Visual Arts Complex with a dedication ceremony.

The event also will kick off the first annual UGA Arts Festival, a four-day celebration held at this immaculate new structure.

"The arts festival was created to celebrate all of the arts on campus," Betty Jean Craige, the director of The Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, said.

"[We wanted] not only to show off the new facility, but also to acquaint the Athens community with all of the wonderful arts. And that includes not only the visual arts but music, theater, dance and creative writing."

The festival, which will feature poetry readings, plays, waltz classes, improv performances and many other unique and artistic happenings, is open and free to the public.

The Lamar Dodd School of Art was founded in 1937. Currently, more than 1,000 art majors search there for inspiration, making it one of the largest university art programs in the nation.

"University students are fortunate to have the opportunity to get a well-rounded education with exciting, never-to-be-forgotten experiences in the arts," Craige said.

"(Today), Friday, Saturday and Sunday promise to be great fun to anyone visiting East Campus."

- Anna Krakovski
