Americans love dead people. In the past decade there has been a huge boom in the popularity of forensics-themed TV series that center their plots on exactly that - death. "Bones," which airs the premiere episode of its fourth season this Wednesday, is yet another series to ride that wave.

The show revolves around the discovery of a corpse, and its subsequent analysis which, throughout an episode, reveals how and why the character was killed. In "Bones," for example, the bodies retrieved are always so badly damaged or decayed that only in-depth bone analysis can help solve the crime, hence the title.

'BONES' PREMIERE

When: 8 tonight
Where: FOX

Season four promises a little more than season three, which barely nabbed a top 50 ranking (coming in at No. 47), but not much. The love-hate chemistry between the show's two main characters, the serious but beautiful Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennen (Emily Deschanel) and jokester Agent Booth (David Boreanaz), gets old, and leaves you screaming "Just date already!," and the constant cheese of one-liners gets stifling.

This season's premiere in particular, which takes place in London, feels almost like an endless barrage of jokes (mostly by the crude Agent Booth) about how confusing it is to be somewhere other than America. Driving on the opposite side of the road, for example, becomes a near-impossible task for Booth, and the concept of tea leaves him utterly perplexed.

For established fans of "Bones," the new two-hour season premiere of the show will not disappoint. The episode's new setting, and the amusing introduction to characters that serve as the British parallel to the Brennen/Booth team provide ample change for those weary of the same old D.C. setting.

The premiere will likely please any general fans of forensics TV, too. Though much less gory than shows such as "C.S.I.," "Bones" has all the same jargon and intense lab scenes. The chemistry between characters is what sets the show apart from other generic crime dramas.

All in all, fans of the show and the genre will not be let down.

After reading this article, I wonder if the author watched more of the premiere than the first twenty minutes. If he did, he would know that a lot more goes on in this show than "crude Agent Booth" making bad jokes about London. (Continued…)

Premiere was last week. Good job with the research.
