Freshman Chelsey Gullickson continued her phenomenal rookie season with an upset the No. 8 player in the country, Baylor's Lenka Broosova in straight sets, 6-1,6-4, to advance to the round of 16 at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships late last night.
Gullickson improved to 8-1 in her young career, with five of those victories coming against nationally ranked opponents. Later tonight, she will face the No. 14 Laura Vallverdu from Miami (Fla.)
"Chelsey got a great win against the number eight seed and she's on a roll right now," Georgia coach Jeff Wallace told georgiadogs.com.
Georgia's other super-freshman, Nadja Gilchrist lost her opening round match to William & Mary's Ragini Acharya in three sets, 6-2,3-6,6-4.
"Nadja was playing her seventh singles match in less than a week, and her opponent played outstanding, and Nadja still almost found a way to win," Wallace said.
Gilchrist, now 10-3 in her career, will move to the singles consolation draw
