R&B's debate recap biased, embarrassing
The front page of The Red & Black "recapping" the vice-presidential debate was an utter embarrassment to our University's newspaper (See Friday's article, "The battle for No. 2").Comparing the article to some national newspapers such as the New York Times and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution really demonstrates how extremely biased our school newspaper and its staff truly are.
The only "negative" thing in the article about Biden is that "he could have been more energized from the start," implying he was actually full of energy toward the end of the debate.
Conversely, one of the only "positive" quotes about Palin was, "and thanks to her redneck, beauty-queen brain, Gov. Palin scored a resounding victory."
And why is it that the reporter chose to quote almost purely University law Democrats?
Perhaps the subtitle "Students keep score on the debate" should have been changed to "University law Democrats weigh in on debate."

Donate to winter clothing drive
Have you seen the sappy commercial of the one-eyed dogs accompanied by Sarah McLachlan's haunting voice?Everywhere we go in our society, we're reminded of the hurting and oppressed - whether it be through commercial ads, political speeches or homeless people downtown asking for money. Knowing that, how often do we respond?
Common excuses for college students range from having limited resources (money or time) to believing better people in the world will take care of these issues.
There is a simple way to help on campus right now. The ONE Campaign at the University, dedicated to fighting global poverty with awareness, political action and local service, is holding a winter clothes drive with contributions going to the International Rescue Committee in Atlanta.
The IRC helps refugees from war-torn countries settle and become self-reliant. Imagine being ripped from your homeland, immersed in a completely foreign culture and being cold.
Why not bring the sweatshirt you've outgrown now that the freshman 15 has hit, or the coat that is now two or three years out of style, and give it new life in a great cause?
The drive is starting soon; look for ONE donation boxes around campus and in dorms.
There are masses of needy people right here in America, and the number is on the rise.
No, a winter clothes drive won't change the world, but it could possibly change people's winter, and maybe their outlook on life.
Whether or not you get involved with this drive is your prerogative, but my advice to you is to get involved anywhere, do good and help those in need because you never know the impact one person can make in the world.

Seriously, there are certain sections of this paper that I can even stomach some days due to the lack of objective writing. It is as if the R&B went around the country and found the most extreme liberals available and shipped them to Athens to write political articles and gossip columns. (Continued…)
