UGA's freshman class breaks previous year's academic record

The University of Georgia tops its previous record again with this year's incoming freshman class holding the highest GPA and SAT averages on record.

According to a UGA press, the freshman class achieved an average 3.86 GPA and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1280 with a writing score of 617. Students who took the ACT attained a mean score of 29.

The Honors Program enrolled 526 students from the freshman class who averaged a high school GPA of 4.07 and an SAT score of 1462 or an average ACT score of 32.7.

Over 800 Georgia high schools from the 137 of the 159 counties are represented in this year's freshman class. Approximately 13 percent of the class are from out of state, including Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, South Carolina and California.

UGA received almost 20,300 for admission this semester.
