On Sunday, Oct. 15, Five Guys' downtown location on College Avenue will be closing permanently.

Although the owners did not wish to comment, a sign posted outside of the restaurant’s door read, “We have enjoyed serving you at this location and hope you can visit our other Athens location five miles away.”

It is unknown at this time why the Five Guys’ location is closing.

The loss of Barnet's Newsstand was a much bigger blow to the character of downtown Athens. From school supplies, to newspapers, to magazines ranging from Foreign Affairs to Mother Earth News and all sorts of trashy car, gun, motorcycle rags. Barnett's was a treasure that will never be replaced.
