Nifty Earth, a local “worldtronica” band, brought AthFest goers to the jungle June 25 at the Hull Street stage.
“We’re going to boogie in the jungle. Do you hear the birds chirping?” said lead keyboard player, Joseph Thrash, about the bird-like sounds of the saxophone.
With a blended jazzy and electronic sound, Nifty Earth got groovy and drew a crowd of at least 100 listeners, despite the overpowering heat in the middle of the afternoon.
“I want to see more people moving around,” Thrash said, attempting to draw the crowd closer to the stage. “Get loose. I know it's hot. Just drink a lot of water.”
Nifty Earth is a return performer at AthFest and its song “Kick Back” was even selected to be a part of the AthFest 2015 compilation album. Nifty Earth was nominated for best electronic act in the 2016 Athens Flagpole Music Awards.
The band’s mentality is to free the mind, body and soul and to create a welcoming community through music, according to its Facebook page.
