A weekend full of bike races, concerts and kids activities means it is time for the annual Athens Orthopedic Clinic Twilight Criterium to make its way back to Athens. Calling bicyclists from all over the country and the world, the race also provides entertainment and fun for locals who want to stop by and cheer on the racers.
To make sure attendees don't miss out on the fun, we created an hour by hour guide to help navigate everything for Athens Twilight weekend and its “40 years of gears.”
Friday, April 26 Noon-11 p.m.
The Twilight Expo, kicking off at noon, will include vendors and food from Biggum’s BBQ, Kelly’s Jamaican and Alumni Cookie Dough. The Expo lasts until 9 p.m. and will be held at 200 College Ave.
For the second year in a row, BikeAthens will host a Joy Ride starting on Washington Street at the College Avenue parking deck.
Nationally recognized at NFL and NBA games, the Keith King BMX performance will offer 30-minute shows at 6 and 7 p.m., with stunts from riders at 300 College Ave.
Pre-registration pickup and event registration will be at 200 College Ave.
Fish Bug, a high-energy Athens post-punk band, will be Friday night’s opener on the Live Wire Athens stage.
For younger attendees, the kids zone will include bouncy houses and games on the 100 block of West Washington Street.
Abbey Road Live! will perform with horns and strings on the Live Wire Athens stage.
Saturday, April 27 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Rise and shine with pre-registration pickup and event day registration at the College Avenue parking deck.
The Sparc Twilight 5K race, presented by Fleet Feet Athens, is open to athletes of any level and will take participants through the historic Boulevard neighborhood and end in downtown.
8:15 a.m.-3:05 p.m.
Clif Bar Amateur Cycling Races will take place at the Greenway Course. Riders can qualify for the finals Saturday evening at 5 p.m. at the AOC Twilight Criterium.
10 a.m.-3 p.m.
For those up for a 50K or 100K ride through Northeast Georgia, the Specialty Paint and Body Gambler Participation bike ride is a viable option beginning and finishing in downtown Athens.
10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Keith King BMX show, presented by Athens Transit, will have shows at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
10 a.m.- 9 p.m.
The kids zone, presented by The Mulherin Foundation, will be located outside Athens First United Methodist Church.
10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Twilight food court, delivered by Cosmic Delivery, will include Five Finger Philly, Hokulia’s Shave Ice, Nedza’s Waffles and King of Pops. The Twilight Expo will also run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Kids Criterium, a bike race for children ages 3 and older, welcomes training wheels and requires helmets.
11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Groups including Fish Bug, Ad Blanco and Banandits will perform at the Live Wire Athens stage.
This free, crossfit-style workout on the Twilight course is led by crossfitter Jan Kozak.
Those who qualify can participate in the 25K Clif Bar Amateur Finals.
At the finish line, enjoy great views and dinner served by The Pine from 6-8 p.m. VIP tickets are $75.
Academy Sports + Outdoors Kids Victory Lap and 1K Fun Run will include a victory lap of the entire Twilight course.
The Sparc Mile Run is presented by Fleet Feet Athens on College Avenue and Washington Street.
AOC Twilight Women’s Proam runs from 7-8:10 p.m. and the AOC Twilight Men’s Proam runs from 8:30-10:15 p.m., attracting cyclists from all over the country.
USA Crits Awards Ceremony will take place at the Live Wire Athens stage.
