Curator of African and African American Art at the Georgia Museum of Art, Harris has lived in West Athens since 2015.
What is one of your favorite exhibits you’ve curated at GMOA?
One that came down in February — — the Richard Hunt Synthesis. Hunt is a sculptor and it was 60 years of artwork that we had on display.
What do you most enjoy about being a curator?
Probably meeting and talking to real artists. A lot of my artists are still alive and it’s both a curse and a blessing at the same time. But getting to know their story is always nice. Not just reading about it in a book but actually being able to ask them questions and seeing their work and if they’re in their studios, I can maybe see them at work.
Do you have a favorite restaurant to take people to in Athens?
The Last Resort Grill — because it’s pretty causal and at the same time I usually like what they offer.
