After a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Athens Really Really Free Market resumed on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in Reese & Pope Park in Athens, Georgia. The market relies on donated items from the community, but unlike other market spaces, the items are free to all that visit, regardless of whether or not patrons brought something to donate. Items at the Athens Really, Really Free Market included everything from clothing, books and furniture to household goods, baby and child products, as well as other miscellaneous donations.
This community oriented event is a worldwide movement, with similarly structured markets spanning across the United States, Asia, and Europe, with monthly markets in Athens beginning nearly a decade ago in 2012. Any unclaimed items are brought to a local thrift store once the market has concluded for the day. This reoccurring event takes place in the same location on the second Saturday of every month, with the next market happening on July 10th from noon to 2 p.m.
