Athens-Clarke County Public Works employees gathered on the morning of Wednesday, September 2 to finish the installation of the Athens Music Walk of Fame in downtown Athens, Georgia.

The Walk of Fame, which showcases notable bands from Athens on guitar pick- shaped plaques, stretches from the 40 Watt Club, around the Georgia Theatre and down to the Caledonia Lounge. Some of the bands and artists highlighted with plaques include R.E.M., The B-52's, Widespread Panic, Hall Johnson, Pylon and Drive-By Truckers.

Crews cut and dug out the sidewalk squares where the plaques were to be set Monday night. After pouring and shaping fresh concrete, the plaques were placed into the mixture. To avoid wet concrete setting on the plaque face, each was wrapped in plastic for installation.
