Restaurants in downtown Athens have been taking advantage of Athens-Clarke County’s new Parklet Pilot Program. This no-cost initiative allows restaurants to utilize the parking spaces outside of their storefronts for expanded outdoor seating in an attempt to provide safer spaces for customers to eat and continue to support businesses. The program does not apply to bars or retail establishments.

Other restaurants like Expat have expanded outdoor seating on their own property or implemented additional measures like leaving windows open in addition to spacing out indoor seating.
