Athens and University of Georgia community members gathered in solidarity on Wednesday, April 14, to remember the life of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man killed by a police officer on April 11 in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. The city is northwest of Minneapolis, where Derek Chauvin was convicted on April 20 for the 2020 murder of Georgia Floyd.

Demonstrators met at Athens' City Hall where various community and student leaders spoke. Then they marched to College Square.

They offered the crowd the message: Don’t get mad, get organized.
