The fundraising campaign for a new Hillel UGA building has begun its public phase, according to a press release from Amplify Partners on behalf of Hillels of Georgia and Hillel UGA. 

The campaign, hosted by Hillels of Georgia and Hillel UGA, has raised $6.4 million to date, more than 80% of its $8 million goal, according to the press release. The largest gift to date is from The Marcus Foundation.

The University of Georgia will no longer require undergraduates to request guest tickets for spring commencement on May 12, according to a UGA graduation information email sent Wednesday. Graduating students will still need to register for themselves to secure a seat on the field.

Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities’ grantee Exceptional Living 101 will host emergency preparedness events to educate and inform the Athens disabled community, according to a press release from GCDD. 

The first event will take place in-person on March 23 at the Athens-Clarke County Library. The second event is virtual and will take place on March 30. Both will take place from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. According to the press release, both events are free, but registration is required.

St. Mary’s Health Care System and national non-profit RIP Medical Debt have partnered to abolish $14.03 million of medical debt for 12,000 former St. Mary’s patients across northeast Georgia, according to a press release from St. Mary’s. Athens-Clarke County is receiving the highest debt relief with $2.024 million abolished across 3,334 accounts, helping 2,102 individuals.
