Former University of Georgia tennis player John Isner won his first match at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The 2007 Georgia graduate is the ninth seed in the tournament and faced Casper Ruud of Norway in his first match.

Isner defeated Ruud in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7(11)-6(9).

The match was Isner’s first back after injuring his left foot in the final of the 2019 Miami Open, which he lost to Roger Federer.

Isner’s second round matchup will be against Mikhail Kukushkin on July 4. The time is to be determined.
