Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart walks out onto the field before the University of Georgia vs. Louisiana State University football game on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Tigers led the Bulldogs 16-0 at the half.

Georgia is one spot closer to making the College Football Playoff for the second straight year.

The Bulldogs moved up to No. 5 in the latest CFP rankings, which were released Tuesday night, after defeating then-No. 9 Kentucky last Saturday.

For the second straight week, Alabama was ranked No. 1 in the poll. Alabama and Georgia will play on Dec. 1 in the 2018 SEC Championship.

The Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide are the two highest ranked SEC teams in the latest rankings. LSU fell from No. 3 to No. 7 after losing to Alabama 29-0 last Saturday.

After being unranked a week ago, Auburn made its debut in the rankings at No. 24. Georgia plays Auburn in Athens Saturday.

Georgia currently sits at 8-1 on the season. If the Bulldogs win their remaining three regular season games and defeat Alabama in the SEC title game, they will likely advance to the playoff.

The top four teams in the final edition of the rankings qualify for the College Football Playoff, with a chance to advance to the national championship. Last season, Alabama defeated Georgia 26-23 in overtime to win the national title.
