While Georgia football had a bye week, sports in Athens didn’t stop as Georgia's equestrian, tennis and swimming and diving teams were in action.

This week in Georgia sports, the 2020 golf season began and the No. 3 ranked football team stayed undefeated with a 44-21 win over No. 14 Tennessee.

On Oct. 2, the Bulldogs faced off against the Kentucky Wildcats in a series of four doubles contests and eight singles contests. These matches were the first of a three day tournament called the Gamecock Southeastern Conference Scramble in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Georgia men’s and women’s tennis teams both welcomed new volunteer assistant coaches this past week. The women’s team added Eric Roddy and Raleigh Grossbaum joined the men’s team’s staff.

On September 9, the fall tournament schedule for the Georgia men’s tennis team was announced. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Bulldogs will play in three tournaments and be up against conference-only opponents.

Georgia tennis player Elena Christofi’s NCAA Woman of the Year journey has ended. The UGA athletic association nominated the rising fifth-year as Georgia’s top female senior athlete on July 16, but the SEC did not select her among its two award finalists last Tuesday.

With three senior departures on his team, Georgia men's tennis head coach Manuel Diaz's son Alex will be the oldest member of his squad this season. But with a core of sophomore and junior talent, the decorated head coach expects big things from the Bulldogs in 2020-21.
